April 13

Amber pages, and a day for thespians:

1964: The first human being who just happened to have darker skin than some of us and why should that be relevant (but sadly it still is and therefore it merits,  no requires, mentioning) won an Oscar as best actor:
Sidney Poitier, for "Lilies of the Field".

1576: James Burbage signed the lease for the land on which he would build The Theatre - the one in Shoreditch,
the first permanent theatre built exclusively for the showing of theatrical productions in England; and you can still visit, albeit only as a museum now: click here.

1906: the day on which Samuel Barclay Beckett's mother tried, but failed, then tried again, and failed better, finally succeeding in giving birth to what may well have been the greatest playwright since that friend and business partner of James Burbage, Bill what's his name.
