William Golding, Nobel Prize-winning author of "The Spire" and "Pincher Martin", born today in 1911.

Simon and Garfunkel reunited in Central Park, New York, today in 1981

John Keats wrote his ode "To Autumn", today in 1819 (given that I regularly work in the library adjacent to his house, I really ought to write this entry there, and include a different photograph of the house; I can't guarantee doing it on the same date however, because the best feature of the house is that plum tree in the front garden, the one he sat under to write the ode "To A Nightingale"; and though the plums are delicious, it's the blossom in the spring that really merits photographing)

And two more for the GER list:

William Joyce (a.k.a. Lord Haw-Haw), Nazi propagandist, sentenced to death, today in 1945 (see January 3)

Juan Peron, dictator of Argentina, ousted today in
1955
